Songs For The People

The Den at The Howlin' Wolf, 907 S. Peters St, New Orleans, LA

SONGS FOR THE PEOPLE returns for the fall season in The Den at The Howlin' Wolf. Hosted and curated by Sariyah Idan, the event includes 4 artists playing original songs in the round. The event benefits a different community organization each month. $10 at the door.

This month's artists are - Sariyha Idan, Xavier Molina, Sha'Condria "iCon" Sibley, and Sky Choice. Funds from the show will go towards People For The Public Art. The purpose of People for Public Art is to fund, create, and document works of public art for the City of New Orleans and beyond. We are artist-run and community-informed. We use this platform to create works of art that reflect the stories of the people. We believe that public artwork should be anchored by social justice, and preserve narratives that are in danger of being silenced. https://www.peopleforpublicart.com/

If the stories we tell shape how we see the world, Sky Choice tells us the world is full of hope and heartbreak, beautiful through and through. A multi-instrumental singer/songwriter, Choice has released two EPs and three albums of stories told through song. Humor, extended metaphor, and lyrical wordplay make Sky’s music shine. Born and raised in Colorado, the traditions of folk and acoustic pop still resonate through his music. Choice’s latest release driftwood (2023) reminds us that the best journeys answer questions we didn't even think to ask. You can listen to driftwood on Spotify, AppleMusic, AmazonMusic, or wherever most music is virtually heard.
